BCASA celebrated "Kobipronaam" at Windsor Gardens Community Hall,Adelaide on Sunday,8 May 2011. It was a nicely scripted ,well organised and a top quality programme presented by our esteemed members.The evening started with lighting of "Pradeep" after garlanding Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore's potrait. Naba Dutta,President,BCASA welcomed all participants and guests and narrated the significance of the occasion.A befitting Rabindra Sangeet was then sung by Mita Palit,Daisy Sheikh,Kakoli Ghosal ,Namita Dutta accompanied by Saurav Mitra on tabla. Reverence and respect were paid to all great poets of Bengal.However,year 2011, being the 150th birth anniversary of Tagore,the theme of the cultural programme was based on the life and the works of the great poet. Several great compositions of "Robi Thakur" were beautifully sung by Mita Palit and Daisy Sheikh,poems recited by Mala Conway and Indrani Baksi in English. Shampa Bruweleit added a very special flavour by singing a Rabindra Sangeet in German .The words from Geetobitan (Prem 367) were translated by Martin Kaempchen,a German scholar who has spent a long time at Shantiniketan. Pinaki Roy spoke extempore to reminisce vividly how he was influenced and got attracted to Tagore's works . Another highlight of the evening "Hasyo-Koutuk", titled "Jhaanki-Darshan" written by Chirantan Kundu (courtesy Indrani Baksi) was brilliantly presented by Namita Dutta and Kakoli Ghosal. In the second half of the programme ,"The Story of Gitanjali" ,a film by Malaya Bhattacharya was screened which won the hearts of every one present .Our special thanks and gratitude go to Mr.Amit Dasgupta,Consul General of India,Sydney for kindly forwarding the album of this outstanding documentary released by the Government of India to mark 150th Birth Anniversary of Tagore. The programme was ably presented by Indrani Baksi and Kaustav Choudhury. The evening came to a close followed by a sumptuous dinner cooked by Saswati,Daisy,Jayita,Shampa,Kakoli,Ivana,Namita and Indrani. Our sincere thanks to all the members ,guests and participants for their active support and encouragement. |

BCASA organised Saraswati Puja on 12 February 2011 at Enfield Community Centre,Adelaide. Mrs.Maya Mazumdar very kindly provided an idol of Maa Saraswati which was decorated beautifully by our young members .Puja was attended by a large cross section of people ,children being the special guests on the auspicious day.Bhog –Prasad was distributed on conclusion of the Puja. BCASA members assisted our Food Committee members took cook delicious Bhog. Devotees also brought various kinds of sweets for the puja and distribution to the attendees. |

Bijoya Sammelani was celebrated with the usual enthusiasm by our members who joined with their familes and friends at the IAASA Hall,Blamey Avenue on Saturday 8 October 2011.It was an evening of music,dance and merriment with the spirit of Bijoya in the air. Shampa Bruweleit did a wonderful job in designing and coordinating the colourful cultural programme presented by our members that evening. Bengali Folk music was the highlight of the function. Some soul stirring songs and beautiful dances were highly appreciated by the audience. Solo songs by Mita Palit,Supriti Das Gupta,Daisy Sheikh,Kaustav Choudhury, Ishti Das (Sneha) and Keka Chakraborty were brilliant. They were joined by Namita Choudhury,Karobi Mukherjee,Shampa Bruweleit and Ruma Chakraborty to present chorus songs.Needless to mention that our one and only Saurav Mitra accompanied all on tabla.Well rehearsed dances by Deblina (Tina) Datta and Pratiti Nath added extra colour and flavour to the highly festive atmosphere.Saswati Choudhury won special appreciation from the audience for her excellent recitation.The MC for the evening was Indrani Baksi. The stage was immaculately decorated by Shampa with her paintings,floral arrangement and lighting of the lamp(pancha-pradeep) ably supported by her better half, Manfred. Credit goes to Ankit,Raja,Anjuli,Pragyan and Soham for their behind the scene work in arranging hall,sound system,seating arrangement,etc. Well done and thank you all for your time,effort and sincerity. We were pleased to introduce our new members to the BCASA family during the programme. Avijit-Tina,Rajabrata-Tania,Sumana Banerjee ,Supriti & Kaushik(Sunny) Dasgupta have already become familiar figures through their intense involvement in BCASA Durga Puja/ Bijoya Sammelani.Dr(s)Kaushik andShanthi Saha,Dr(s)Partha & Dipali Roy,Ambar & Kanchan Chakravarty have extended the BCASA family further. After the cultural programme, a home-cooked gourmet dinner organised by BCASA Food Committe was served .The menu included singara,fish chop,mutton chop,phoolkopi’r dalna,fried rice,chutney,raita,salad and a variety of sweets .We are thankful to Shankari Sen,Jayita Ray,Karobi Mukherjee,Shampa,Saswati,Daisy,Ivana, , Namita and Indrani,for cooking the delicious dishes. We also thank all other members who brought other food items like laddoo, cookies etc.

Bengali Cultural Association of South Australia (BCASA)organised Durga Puja at the Adelaide Ganesha Temple premises on Tuesday ,4 October 2011, More than five hundred people congregated at the temple to celebrate the Maha-ashtami puja. The sombre tone of the evening was set by a few devotional songs superbly sung by Mita Palit and Ruma Chakraborty Keeping with the tradition and on behalf of BCASA,Maya Mazumdar honoured the priest by offering a shawl. After a brief address by Naba Dutta,President of BCASA, the puja commenced. Chandan Banerjee and his wife Sumana were joined by Nandita Majumdar and her little son to host the puja . On conclusion of the puja, Prasad,khichuri,laabraa,chutnety and sweets prepared by our dedicated volunteers were served to all attendees . BCASA is thankful to all those members who volunteered and worked wholeheartedly to make this occasion so successful. We are also very grateful to those members who contributed generously for the puja. Our special thanks go to the President of Hindu society and the priests who facilitated the function with their full cooperation. Last but not the least BCASA thanks all devotees who graced the occasion by joining us in the puja |
